Welcoming the new Director of Exploration Strategy
Fleet Space Technologies, one of the world's fastest growing space-enabled mineral exploration companies, is thrilled to announce Imelda Alexopoulos as the new Director of Exploration Strategy. Following Fleet’s continued exponential growth and successful Series C funding round, this appointment marks the latest in a series of strategic additions to the Fleet team since the beginning of 2023.
Imelda Alexopoulos brings a long track record of working closely with innovative startups, scale ups, and large organizations. Prior to joining Fleet, she spent over 15 years at PwC, including 8 years as a partner leading a variety of practices in South Australia, including Space & Future Industries, Financial Advisory, and Social Impact. Imelda’s success advising industry-leading companies on R&D, funding, government programs, growth strategy and more, ultimately led to her recognition as one of South Australia’s best young business people in InDaily’s “40 Under 40” list in 2019.
As a life-long lover of science, Imelda received her BA in Biomedical Sciences from James Cook University, and has spent her career working at the nexus of science and technology with clients across the space, defence, and mineral exploration sectors. In her new role, Imelda will be the guiding force behind Fleet’s strategic direction in space and terrestrial exploration, helping to build space-enabled technologies for humanity to explore and connect Earth, Moon, and Mars.
An Exciting Time for Fleet’s Expansion in Space, Defence and Mineral Exploration
“We couldn’t be more excited for Imelda Alexopoulos to join our team at this groundbreaking moment in Fleet’s history,” said Matt Pearson, Chief Exploration Officer, Fleet Space Technologies. “Our exponential rise and commercial success are the direct result of our relentless commitment to cultivating high-performing teams, fueled by a passion for Fleet’s mission to transform how humanity explores worlds, including our own. Imelda’s deep expertise will be a force multiplier for Fleet as we continue to develop revolutionary, satellite-enabled solutions across sectors, including space, defence, and mineral exploration.”
In addition to her responsibilities as a mother and business leader, Imelda has also been deeply involved with multiple social impact initiatives. She is currently on the board of the State Opera of South Australia, and on the committee of Young Impact100 South Australia, helping to teach students about philanthropy and broader efforts to support vulnerable members of the community, including children, the elderly, people experiencing homelessness and people living with a disability.
Fleet’s Strides in Seismic Lunar Data and Mineral Exploration
The appointment of Imelda comes at a moment of considerable growth for Fleet. In 2023, the company completed a A$50m Series C funding round, signed its first defence contract with the Australian Defence Space Command, and was awarded a Demonstrator Program contract by the Australian Space Agency to harness seismic data on the Moon’s South Pole. Fleet’s cutting-edge technology, ExoSphere by Fleet®, is also making waves in the mineral exploration industry, and has been used to conduct surveys on a variety of commodity types across 5 continents with 30+ of the most progressive exploration companies including Rio Tinto, Barrick Gold, and Core Lithium, among others.
